Belt.io is a completely free cloud service that offers an easy, yet powerful solution to syncing data across devices. Using Belt.io is mostly straightforward, but in the case you find it difficult to get Belt.io to do what you want, this help guide might clear out some of them. In the case that you still don’t find the difficulties cleared, feel free to email me and I’ll try my best to assist.

Getting Belt.io

Belt.io is a multi platform software. Its purpose is to connect different platforms and different physical devices of the same platform together. In order to do so, Belt.io generally needs to be set up on more than one device. The typical set up is to have a browser extension on your desktop / laptop computer, and a mobile application on your mobile phone.


Belt.io is currently available on two browsers: Chrome and Firefox. The Chrome version is hosted on Google’s Chrome store which can be accessed here. The Firefox version is hosted on Belt.io’s servers and can be accessed from here.


The mobile version is available on two platforms as well: Android and iOS. You can grab your Android version from the Google play store here and iOS version from Apple’s App Store here.


Signup / Register

All you need to signup / register with Belt.io is a valid email address and a password of at least six characters in length. You can signupon one device and then access your account from any other device / platform. You only need one account. Signing up can be done from Belt.io’s website or from the mobile apps.

Logging in

Logging in is done in similar manner as signing up. They also look very similar and are very straightforward. Click on the login button in Belt.io’s website and enter your email address and password in the fields. Similarly on the mobile apps, enter your email address and password and then click on login.


On the browser extensions, logging-in is also done the same way. You only need to find the Belt.io icon before you can login. On Firefox this can be found usually on the lower right corner of browser window, and on Chrome it’s on the upper right corner.

Recovering your account

To recover your account, if you forgot your password, find the “Forgot your password?” link under the signup button on Belt.io’s homepage. This will allow you to enter the email address you used when registering with Belt.io and the recovery instructions will be sent your email address. Be sure to check the spam folder in your inbox if you didn’t receive any emails.


Adding Items to the Belt

Adding items to Belt.io can be done in one of three channels:

Belt.io’s website:

After you login to your account, you will be directed to Belt page where most of the functionality resides. At the top of the page you’ll find an empty text box which you can use to enter the text for the new item you wish to add to Belt.io which also includes links. When you’re done adding text, simply click on the plus ‘+’ button underneath and your item will instantly be added to your account. Additionally all logged-in devices will receive an instant push notification of the newly added item and it will be available for access from anywhere.

Mobile Apps:

Adding items through the mobile apps is done in a similar manner to Belt.io’s website. After you login, you’ll find an empty box where you can add text and links through. When you’re done adding text, simply click on the plus ‘+’ button next to it and your item will instantly be added to your account. Additionally all logged-in devices will receive an instant push notification of the newly added item and it will be available for access from anywhere.

Browser Extensions:

After logging-in through the extension, a new submenu will be added to your browser’s context menu (right click). This submenu allows you to send different types of text to your Belt.io account. It is activated by right clicking on pages, images, links, and highlighted text. To send an item right click on it within the page you’re browsing, then find the submenu with Belt.io’s green icon that reads “Send [x] to the Belt” and then select “My Belt”. This will add your item to your account. Additionally all logged-in devices will receive an instant push notification of the newly added item and it will be available for access from anywhere.


Adding Friends

Adding friends can be done through two channels:

Belt.io’s website:

To add friends, you must first login. When you’re logged-in you’ll find that a new “Accounts” menu item at the top. Under it you’ll find the link “Friends” which will direct you to the friends page. In the friends page you can add, accept friend requests, and delete friends. To add a friend, simply enter their email address in the box and click on “Add Friend”. This will show up at your friend’s Belt.io account and once accepted you’ll be able to share items with each other. To accept a friend simply click on the ‘correct icon' button next to that friend’s email address which is located under the “Received requests” list

Mobile Apps:

Adding friends on mobile apps is done in a similar way to the website. First locate the friends icon at the bottom of the Belt.io app. This icon will take you to the friends management page where you’ll see a text box and a list of friends. To add a friend enter their email address in the box and then click on the “Add friend” button. To accept a friend simply click on the ‘correct icon' button next to that friend’s email address which is located under the “Received requests” list.

Be sure to refresh your friends list on the browser extension after your friend accepts your request. You can refresh the list by clicking on the Belt.io context menu and selecting “Refresh list” at the bottom.


Sending Items to Friends

Sending items to friends is done in a very similar way to adding items to your own Belt.io account. There are three channels for that:

Belt.io’s website:

After you login to your account, you will be directed to Belt page where most of the functionality resides. You can use this same box to send items to friends. When you’re done adding text, simply click on the plus ’share icon’ button underneath and you’ll be presented with a list of confirmed friends to send the item to. You can also send the same item to multiple friends by selecting that option from the same menu. The item will instantly be sent to your friend(’s/s’) account and added to your account. Additionally all your friend’s logged-in devices will receive an instant push notification of the newly added item and it will be available for access from anywhere.

Mobile Apps:

Sending items through the mobile apps is done in a similar manner to Belt.io’s website. After you login, you’ll find an empty box where you can add text and links through. When you’re done adding text, simply click on the plus ’share icon’ button next to it and your item will present you with a list of confirmed friends.
